1. AFTER SEARCHING THE KOREAN TRADEMARK DATABASE, EVEN IF YOU THINK THE RESULTS ARE "O.K.," DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOUR MARK CAN BE REGISTERED AT THE KIPO. AFTER YOU FILE AN APPLICATION, THE KIPO MUST DO ITS OWN SEARCH AND OTHER REVIEW, AND MIGHT REFUSE TO REGISTER YOUR MARK.
2. It is not mandatory to conduct a trademark search prior to filing an application. However, when there is a request from the applicant, our trademark search is conducted by reviewing the Trademark Gazettes and the Current Report of trademark application issued to date and by carrying out a computer search. Our search cannot cover pending similar trademark application which are not published in the "Official Trademark Gazettes" or the Current Report of trademark applications, since details of such applications are not publicly available.
