Honeywell International has won "well-known trademark" status in China, in the wake of a favorable court ruling against a local company which was using the Honeywell name inappropriately.

"Well-known trademark" status in China is one line of defense against trademark infringement, and is granted by the government to companies whose brands or designs are appropriated by rivals.

The government usually recognizes domestic companies of long standing, making the most prominent brands of traditional Chinese products, with 'well-known trademark' status.

Honeywell says it is only the fourth foreign company in China to achieve such status.

Having 'well-known' status will protect and strengthen the Honeywell brand in China and create greater opportunities for the company to grow in one of the most dynamic economies in the world.
